Can I translate my own documents?
Short answer
Almost never for official use. Authorities generally require an independent translator's certification precisely because the applicant has an interest in the content, and a self-translated document is usually refused on that basis alone.
The same principle applies to translations by relatives or by the sponsoring employer in many jurisdictions.
Where a document is only for internal understanding rather than submission, an informal translation is fine — the distinction is the intended recipient.
