Translation for embassy and consulate submissions

In short

Embassies set their own translation rules. Some accept any competent certified translation, some maintain a list of approved translators, and some require the translation to be legalised by the Department of Consular Affairs before submission. The mission's current published requirement governs.

Check the requirement on the mission's own website or by direct enquiry, and check the date it was last updated. Requirements change, and third-party summaries circulate long after they have stopped being accurate.

Where the mission keeps the submitted originals, order enough certified sets in the same production run. A second run later means a second certification chain and a second wait.

What we need from you

Watch out

Some missions refuse documents issued more than a few months earlier — check document age before translating.
