Is a Thai marriage certificate valid abroad?

Short answer

A marriage validly registered in Thailand is generally recognised abroad, but the foreign authority will normally require the Thai certificate with a certified translation and either an Apostille — available since the Convention entered into force for Thailand on 22 December 2024 — or legalisation, depending on the destination.

Some countries also require the marriage to be reported to their embassy or registered in their own civil register. Ask the embassy what it requires rather than assuming the certificate alone is enough.

Keep more than one certified set. Several authorities each retain an original, and reordering later takes as long as the first time.
