Does a child need a consent letter to leave Thailand with one parent?
Short answer
Airlines and destination immigration authorities frequently ask for evidence of parental consent when a child travels with one parent or with a third party. The requirement comes from the carrier and the destination, so check both before travel.
A consent letter is more likely to be accepted when it is signed before a notarial services attorney and accompanied by copies of both parents' identity documents and the child's birth certificate.
Where parental power has been determined by a court or by legitimation, carrying the certified document removes most questions at the counter.
