Does Thailand have notaries public?
Short answer
Not in the civil-law sense. The equivalent function is carried out by a lawyer registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand as a Notarial Services Attorney, who certifies signatures and copies and administers affirmations for documents intended for use abroad.
Because the title differs, some foreign institutions ask for clarification. Providing the attorney's Lawyers Council registration details usually resolves it; where it does not, adding consular legalisation or an Apostille gives the document a certification the destination recognises directly.
For documents that will stay in Thailand, a notarial certificate is often unnecessary — many Thai offices accept a certified true copy signed by the holder instead. Ask the receiving office first.
