Litigation support for foreign parties in Thailand

In short

Foreign parties in Thai proceedings usually need three things arranged together: Thai-qualified counsel, certified translations of the documentary evidence, and an interpreter for hearings. Proceedings are conducted in Thai under the Civil and Criminal Procedure Codes.

Documentary evidence in a foreign language is normally filed with a Thai translation, and the court can require the translation to be certified. Planning the translation set at the pleadings stage — rather than the week before a hearing — keeps exhibit numbering stable across both language versions.

Timelines are set by the court's cause list, not by the parties. Where a witness has to travel, coordinate the visa position, the hearing date and the interpreter booking as a single plan, because a change to any one of them moves the other two.

Watch out

IVC provides translation, interpreting and document coordination; representation before the court is by Thai-licensed counsel.
