Notarial services attorney in Thailand
In short
Thailand does not have civil-law notaries. The equivalent function is performed by a lawyer licensed by the Lawyers Council of Thailand as a Notarial Services Attorney, who can certify signatures, certify copies as true copies, and administer affirmations for documents intended for use abroad.
Because the role is different from a European or Latin American notary, receiving institutions abroad occasionally query the certificate. Where that risk exists, the practical answer is to add the next layer of the chain — legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs, and then an Apostille or embassy legalisation as the destination requires.
Bring original documents and photo identification to the appointment. A notarial services attorney certifies what is presented and witnessed in person; scans and forwarded copies cannot support a signature certification.

- The document to be certified, in original
- Passport or ID card of every signatory
- The destination country and the office that will receive the document
- Any wording the receiving institution has specified for the certificate
Watch out
Ask the receiving institution whether the Thai notarial certificate alone is enough. If not, budget time for the consular layer as well.
